reinstalling after trying to erase all of Thunderbird by hand the instal file is corrupt
The Thunderbird in use did not have the possibility to leave the mails on the server. By reinstalling the same problem remained. So I did delete Thunderbird and all the files I could find by hand. I hoped to solve the problem, but now I cannot install Thunderbird, because the install program is corrupt. It says 'extraction failed. file is corrupt.' I think I did something wrong, but what to do? There are a few files I cannot open and there are 4 shortcuts which I cannot delete. W10 don't give me acces or refuses to obey my orders..

Perhaps get an anti virus that does not prevent the installer from running. If you have increased the level of "security" the software is supposed to be offering you have probably set it high enough to stop the software running at all.
Leaving message on the server is only an option for POP mail accounts. IMAP mail account operate in a synchronization of mail with the server.
That doesn't solve the problem, Matt. The file stays corrupt. I have windows defence and Iolo System Mechanic Ultimate Defence. Iolo is difficult to disable.

Standard advice for those with anti virus issues is windows safe mode with networking. it disables all startup programs including anti virus. So installation should not be an issue.
As fas as I know I have switched off the firewall and networksecuritiy of Microsoft. But is doesn't help. I take back the question and give it up. When I am back home I'll ask a few people there and maybe they can help. Matt, thanks very much for all your help and time, I really appreciated it very much.
