This seems to appear in W7 systems with certain desktop themes.

Yes, it occurred on both of my W7 x64 systems with classic theme after the upgrade from 78.4.0 to 78.4.1. Unread messages (listed in bold) disappear when the cursor is hovered over them. Read messages do not disappear.

This anomaly does not occur on my W10 x32 machine (a Dell tablet). Also, in W10, when I hover over an item, either read or unread, the background of that line changes color. It doesn't do that on the W7 machines.

Here's a workaround: Go to Add-Ons and select one of the 2 optional themes. That solves the disappearing problem. The Light theme is very close to the default one. A minor annoyance remains: If 2 or more messages are selected, the background of the menu bar between the selection pane and the preview pane turns dark blue while the clickable items there remain black, making them very hard to read.
