I'm getting Profile Missing: Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.

I don't have a caches folder I can remove the contents of the application support folder and nothing changes.

When I go to open the profile manager I get:

MyName$ /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -P Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory.

      1. !!! [Parent][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost

I tried running Disk Utility but it froze the machine as it's a time machine disk and that slows it down immeasurably.

What's my next option?

Chosen solution

Running the following repair permissions routine appears to have solved my problem:

diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there? Also, open the profile folder in your file explorer.

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

@FredMcD

The only related folder on my Desktop is "Firefox" and it's my backup of the Application Support folder.

As for typing about:profiles<enter> I can't. Firefox will not open under any circumstances, safe mode or otherwise

Did you check the links I posted?

@FredMcD

Yes I did. The suggestions for firing up Firefox while it can't find a profile are

A) Delete Firefox stuff in the library. ie caches, application support. (It doesn't work.) B) To use the profile manager to create a new profile(as stated, it doesn't run) C) to navigate to about:profiles. Can't do that without opening Firefox.

I have also tried booting Firefox in safe mode by holding down option. This didn't work.

I have read that there might be a possible permissions issue on my drive but using get info, it appears to be correct.
