On the page Moving Thunderbird, Step 2 is: 2. Click on [Open Folder]. Your Thunderbird profile folder will open in Windows Explorer.

Unfortunately, the FIRST "Open Folder" choice is the "Update Folder" which is incorrect. Using a small laptop, I couldn't see the correct second "Open Folder", so I got lost down a rabbit hole -- copying & moving C:\ProgramData\Mozilla folders.

I think it would be a big help for clueless people like me if someone could add a little more detail in that step. But on the other hand, it is a really helpful set of steps. So Thanks!!

Chosen solution

There used to be only one Open Folder in the troubleshooting section, and the one for Update Folder was added in recent versions. If you feel inclined, under Edit Tools on the right there is an Edit Article link where your suggestion can be submitted.

sfhowes: Thanks! I went ahead and added a sentence in two places:

  Locate the "Profile Folder" entry.

It may be a different entry for Mac or Linux, so the edit may need more work.

It's Show in Finder on Mac, and Open Directory on Linux, but that should be included by the editor in the final version.
