'There is no email program associated' message twice every startup

Some months ago I changed from the release to the beta channel. At some point during the 91 betas I started getting a message box saying 'There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.' twice every startup. On starting Thunderbird I first get a message box saying that, I click on OK, the box closes, the box opens again with the same message, I click OK again, the box closes again and then the Thunderbird window finally opens. Every startup. Whether I'm starting TB or it is re-starting after an update. In Windows 10 Default Apps settings, Email is set to Thunderbird, .eml, .wdseml, MAILTO and MID are set to Thunderbird. In Thunderbird settings I've set and re-set Thunderbird to be the default for everything but Calendar, also done it again after running TB as an administrator. I've used a reg file I found that's supposed to deal with problems in the Registry that can cause this, and also downloaded and run the current 92 beta installer after finding the problem still there after TB updated to the 92 beta.

Everything appears to work after it starts, but having this error box and having to OK it twice every re-start is getting really annoying.

Any suggestions?

I was wondering for a moment why I didn't see that before I posted ... until noticing my post was hours before that one!

Interesting. I've found the solution to my problem, but in the replies to you by 'IT Support' in the bug you filed which you linked to in your reply to that other question. I changed pref ldap_2.servers.outlook.dirType back to -1 from 3, and also deleted pref ldap_2.servers.OE.dirType (which I'd added set to 3) completely, and I've immediately stopped getting the two error boxes. (I think I was getting it twice rather than once because of the two preferences, the outlook one that's present by default and the OE one I added.)

I'd changed ldap_2.servers.outlook.dirType to 3 and added ldap_2.servers.OE.dirType 3 as parts of attempts to get the TB address book to connect and sync with my outlook.com address book after finding that moving to the betas had killed TbSync, which I had been using to connect both my gmail.com and outlook.com calendars and address books to TB. I discovered that TB now supported linking to the gmail.com calendars and address book directly, and I could also link TB to the outlook.com calendar (though only the main outlook.com calendar, not extra ones), but although I thought one TB release note implied I should now be able to connect TB with the outlook.com address book directly, I haven't managed to accomplish this. Setting ldap_2.servers.outlook.dirType to 3 and creating a pref ldap_2.servers.OE.dirType and setting it to 3 were parts of different instructions i found while googling connecting TB to the outlook.com address book, but neither worked, so I'm not losing anything changing the one back to -1 and deleting the other to get rid of those on-start warning boxes.

So, thanks for indirectly directing me to the solution to the warning boxes for me.

If TB can connect to outlook.com address books somehow I'd really appreciate a direction to working instructions as to how.

I also fixed my issue like DavidBE, indirectly, I think. I created a new profile and without entering anything, and it worked. So I simply sat down for 2 hours and either manually added stuff like creating emails (all IMAP thank goodness) or copied over the files from the old profile 1 by 1. Especially like address books.

Abook-5 was a differnt "dirType", still a sqlite file though. "ldap_2.servers.KMail.dirType", 101. The others were not KMail.dirType. Not sure if that was an issue. I could not see any other major differences when I did a diff on the two prefs.js files.

Either way, rebuilding my profile fixed mine thank goodness.

Not only do I have this problem but every time I open TB all my subfolders are fully open too! So not only do I have to click OK twice but then I have to close all subfolders on 6 different accounts. This is very frustrating!!!!!

I don't have the time or the technical expertise to dig around to find solutions but I would welcome an easy to follow fix if one ever comes up!

ALSO, the account reordering that can now be done inside account settings doesn't stick. It goes back to the old order every time. It doesn't stick with the manually sort folders add-on either.

In short I feel this TB upgrade has badly let me down and am stuck until fixes can be found. If not, I will have to fins another solution.
