Thunderbird creates a new profile every time it starts

For 2 years now TB has been a pain in 'my behind' and now I'm feed up ... I love the functions but it keeps making a new profile when I reload it.

It can't stay installed om my MacOS and just work, everytime I need to upgrade it's a new install ... and here the problems start because now it starts as if I don't have any profiles and creates new ones every time I load the programme.

I just want a working emailsystem with all my old emails ... easy upgradeable and easy to start. And not having to do a complete recovery process each time.

Have you dragged the TB icon to the Applications folder? Most issues like yours are due to incomplete installations:
