New tabs open in foreign languages instead of English

Quite often when I go to a site (using Firefox) my page defaults to French or Dutch (Nextdoor, Pixlr for example). Tonight I tried to login to Zoom... and... guess what? RUSSIAN!

Any ideas tech friends on what causes this, and more importantly, *how to fix it*?

Hi Jeff Cooper,

Check that your preferred language for displaying pages is set to English or not.

Just go to Settings, then in General Tab you fill find Language Option, from where you can select English as your preferred language for displaying the pages.

I am attaching the screenshots also.

Thanks.

Dear Shashank,

I'd already checked my preferred language settings; it has always been English and nothing else. This does *not* explain why I've been opening tabs in French, Dutch, and now Russian.

Thanks for trying though. If you have any other explanation for why this is happening I'd love to hear it.

Note that you appear to have a user agent that is modified by Avast Anti-Track that could be causing problems, so if you do use this software then try to disable it. You can contact Avast about this if their software causes problems for you. We can't do much about this apart from identifying Avast Anti-Track as a possible cause.

Are you using a proxy or VPN ?

Dear Corel,

I used AVG free for many years. A couple years ago I paid for a suite of their services, including Anti-Track and something else regarding VPN that I think blocked my IP address. I'm using a cable connect through Xfinity to connect to the Net. I didn't renew my subscription to those AVG services but you think that might be a side effect? All I know is it's extremely weird!

Searching for Avast returned a huge list of results... some of which include licenses from several countries including their language characters. I'm attaching a screenshot below. If there's something specific within Avast that you want me to search for I will and post again with another screenshot.

Should I consult AVG about this?

I spent a long time with AVG Support and unisntalled it (temporarily). However there are still a large number of Avast files on my computer. Is it safe to discard all of them or will that cause other problems? I still get Pixlr in French when I try and use it (see screenshot below)
