Firefox continually blocks me from accessing http websites I am trying to find and will not let me override the access denial.

If Firefox shows the page that the website doesn't support secure HTTPS then it usually works if you click the link to continue to the HTTP site. This can also happen with some server redirects where you still end up on a working HTTPS site.

If HTTPS-Only mode is enabled and this doesn't work then you can create an HTTPS-Only mode exception with the http:// protocol.
