When I send an invitation with additional text in the description, this text does not reach users who use Outlook (with Exchange). Instead, the appointment only contains the text: <email address> invited you to <appointment name>. The description is missing.

Hello there pkoetschau. We have read your message. We try to help you.

Sending invitations with no invitation discription/appointment is not acceptable. The text is missing or does not exist when it’s expexted to be there.

If it was the Outlook user that has to check if there stuff where oke. They had to read this article down below.

To reset refresh the roaming preferences of Outlook

Run “Outlook.exe /cleanroamedprefs” This switch command cleans (and copies again) your Outlook roaming preferences from the local settings of the PC on which it is run.

Roaming settings are a small collection of settings that govern reminders, the Free/Busy grid, working hours, calendar publishing, and RSS rules.

Settings running on Exchange Server can change during an Outlook session. Normally, as soon as new settings become available, they are updated for the user client. Unfortunately, in certain cases, this doesn’t happen, leading to various problems. Running Outlook.exe /cleanroamedprefs should fix the problem.

To do so, click on Start. In the search box, type Outlook.exe /cleanroamedprefs, and hit enter. (Note: there is a space after “.exe” and before the forward slash).

Outlook should start up again.

The outlook user could also use Run “Outlook.exe /cleanprofile”

The Thunderbird user could read this form If they use CalDav.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/enable-email-invitations-caldav-servers-configured

Check the server settings for CalDav.

Hello Firefoxvolenteer,

thank you for your support.

Unfortunately, I cannot change the Outlook configuration because the problem in Outlook does not occur with me, but with people I write to who use Outlook.

I had already made the recommended settings in Thunderbird, see image.

Calendar invitations sent to a POP or IMAP account

It has to do with Exchange.

If you create a POP or IMAP account in your Outlook profile, calendar invitations sent to that account do not appear on your primary Outlook calendar (as they do with Exchange). GWSMO can only update your calendar with invitations sent to your Google Workspace account.

I do not get a proper answer on it.

Hello user4457113,

I don't quite understand how your answers should fit my problem.

What you seem to saying is: You send an invite - a recipient who uses Outlook exchange (not thunderbird) has a problem with received invites where the description is missing.

Unfortunately we have no control over the recipients setup nor can we advise on Outlook exchange settings. At this point we do not know if this is an issue with the recipients settings and nothing you can do will fix it.

Please perform two tests: Suggest you check to see if your Anti-virus or other programs are scanning outgoing mail and is causing the problem in some form. The best way to do this is:

test 1: exit all programs and reboot the computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' mode and then start Thunderbird in 'Safe Mode' as well - as this is the only way to ensure nothing is interfering as you send invite from your end.

how to start thunderbird in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird

If it works ok - perform test 2: Leave computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' mode, but restart Thunderbird in normal mode and then try another send invite.

Please report back on results.

Hello Tad-Hall,

i'm using Thunderbird 91.7.0. I tried the suggested way to do your tests, but unfortunately I'm not able to get a network connection when starten Windows 10 in Safe mode with networking. I don't know why and tried several suggestion from microsoft to get it working, but no way. Unfortunately I can't do the testing you suggested.

Actually I found a workaround for me, which I already hate: I have to use Outlook :-(

If you are using a wireless connection then this would cause the network problem. You would need to use an ethernet cable between computer and router.
