Is there proper mailing list feature available in Thunderbird?

Say, I have a mailing list in Thunderbird that contains 30 contacts. I can write a new e-mail, drop all the contacts from the mailing list into the To or BCC field and send it off, no problem.

But now, say, I have a mailing list with 60 contacts. If I do the same, my (virtually all) mail server replies with a "Error: Too many recipients" because it is not allowed to send an e-mail to more than 50 contacts. So in this case the mailing list of Thunderbird is useless because really it's just a collection of mail addresses that I can copy from.

What I would need is a proper mailing list feature, i.e. I can add the mailing list to the To or BCC field and Thunderbird would send a single e-mail to each contact, therefor always staying below the 50 recipient restriction.

Is this possible somehow or is there a plugin? Thanks for any help.

Yes, there is an addon, mailmerge. Works fine.

I am trying it right now. Can you maybe help: I am afraid it will send the message to the whole address book I chose in the mail merge dialog? I have added manually the contacts I want to send the message to but so why do I still need to chose an address book afterwards? Thanks!

The process does not send, but saves as eml files to then be sent. The steps are explained in the addon itself. I suggest you experiment with a test email to two addresses. It prompts when send key is pressed and then prompts you to use the File>send facility.
