For YEARS I have successfully sent daily photos in my Thunderbird with no problem. Procedure: I highlight the photos to send, click "send to"/"mail recipient". Thunderbird then autonatically opens, with a box showing a choice of small, medium, large, or original size, and displays the overall total size in eacg case, so I can max the quality of what I send. I make my "total mb" choice, and click "attach". A blank email opens, I simply enter the destination email address , and all is sent. Simple., Done. Time after time. Today..EVERY time I do this (send/mail recipient/choose size/ attach) the email page now opens with abig square pop up on teling me i need to open an account! It says "IN ORDER TO RECEIVE MESSAGES YOU MUST FiRST SET UP AN ACCOUNT" ( I am trying to SEND anyway, not recieve) I have never had this problem , I am doing nothing different. I clearly DO have an account, as I have always been ablke to send photos and emails. I canNOT get past this and it is very frustrating. (Despite saying "choose account" It only offers one type anyway; a "Newsgroup" acct. I dont want one, and have never previously needed one. It was ALL working fine yesterday. Is this some glitch in the latest update? If s how doI go back to the one that actually worked? I send photos every day, to people bedridden, who need them; this is a serious problem for me. Pease please help a.s.a.p. Many thanks!! Steve.

I wonder if it is not locating the original profile ? Try: Start Thunderbird. Do you see the mail account name in the Folder Pane? It will have the 'Sent' folder showing all the emails you have previously sent. It should also show all folders plus incoming mail etc. If no mail account: Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information Under 'Application Basics' near the bottom - click on 'about:profiles' It opens in a new tab.

Do you have more than one profile listed ? Perhaps the current default profile is not the correct one? If there is a second profile - not set as default - it will have some buttons below it. Click on 'Set as default' then click on 'Launch profile' It will open in a second window. The mail account may now appear.

Let me know results.

Dear Mr Toad. (poop poop!) Thank you for your reply.Your reply prompted me to be more scientific, and I have discovered something. If I have thunderbird open (even if minimised) I can indeed go to a folder on my desktop, select photos in it, choose "sendto"/Email recipient" and it does work as it should. BUT I am sure it used to be that when thunderbird was NOT open I could start just from the desktop folder, STILL choose the photos/send to/email recipient, and this then TRIGGERED thunderbird tp open for me, with a new blank email and the photos attched. THIS is what no longer seems to work. I then get the pop up (see photo) . It MAY be I am wrong, and Tbird didnt let me do this, but I thought it did. And of course if Tbird IS programmed to open when I select "sent/email recipient" then of course it SHOULD just open, and let me send them without this issue, as it knows full well I DO have an acct. Does this make things clearer? Apologies for not doing more research initially.
