When I download a file before I even have a chance to save or open the file Firefox downloads the file and puts it on my desktop. I have to look at lots of .pdf files and this a bit annoying as I have to keep deleting all the files I dont want. The dialog box opens and I always choose open rather than save but Firefox has already saved a copy to my desktop. How can I stop this autosave please ? Cheers.

I am about ready to ditch Firefox, month after month I update and firefox wants to save my pdf and I only want to open it. Sick and tired of this; bye bye FF

Oh, and yes, I change my preference every single time I have a new update but every single time a new update changes my preference. Pitiful

The change I mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1375403#answer-1526588 should stick from one session to the next and through updates. If you decide you want to keep using Firefox, I suggest starting a new thread about this problem with losing settings.
