using firefox 102.0.1 - suddenly have problems on Amazon

more options

As of yesterday I cannot use Firefox on Amazon from my desktop. I can use it from both of my laptops and, on my desktop, I can use Amazon from Google Chrome.

When I try to search products on FF I get a black screen. When I try to access my wish list, I get multiple error messages.

I tried Re-installing FF but the same problem persists. I have not tried uninstalling/reinstalling yet.

I did a full virus scan overnight. No problems were found in the scan.

Hi Rosaliy Lynne, What are the error messages?

You can try - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode

to see if add-ons (extensions and themes), hardware acceleration and certain other features are interfering.

Your suggestion was not workable, probably because my installation of ff had been corrupted. When I tried to restart in troubleshoot mode, I kept getting repeat error messages old process still running but not responding. After terminating the process with program manager, restarting ff came up with the same old process still running. I even shut down completely and cold rebooted but was unable to restart ff.

So I did the obvious. Uninstall/reinstall and allowed refresh to defaults.

The NEW re-install is now working properly BUT I have lost all my saved shortcuts.

There is a file on my desktop 'Old Firefox Data'. Is there a way I can recover those saved shortcuts from that?

I'm glad to hear that you got something going. Whatever you do don't delete that folder! (Too many people make that mistake) That's a copy of all of your user data and the information in this article will help you recover it -

Ok. So far I have created a new profile and copied what links I might need from the old firefox data file. btw I made a backup copy of that data file in case I need it again.

I closed firefox, but if course it reopened so I can get back to you.

My next trick is to see if the new profile works.

Surprise surprise. Opening firefox seems to have activated the new profile.

My saved shortcuts are back. My text and google keep notes are back - less the previously saved text. Looks like my saved bookmarks are back too. Even the problem I had with Amazon is fixed.

so far so good and thank you so much!!

Good for you! I'm glad to hear it!

Now that you are familiar with Profiles, I suggest making a copy at every major update - every 4 weeks. That way you'll always have it available and, worst case, you'll only lose a months worth of data. Let's hope you'll never need it, though.

Glad I could help. Happy Shopping!
