pinning a website to the desktop

What's going wrong with pinning websites to the desktop? On my old Tesco Hudl2 tablet, I could pin any website I wanted to the desktop.

On my new Lenovo tablet, I am able to pin sites like toolstation.com and Tesco groceries, but not yell.com or groceries.asda.com

On my phone (a Xiaomi X3 Poco NFC), I had successfully pinned traveline.com and yahoo.co.uk, but both of those pins disappeared recently, and now I can't re-pin them. Both remain pinned on my tablet.

Am I doing something wrong? Why is this feature so inconsistent?

Both the Phone and Tablet are running Firefox 104.1.0 (Build #2015898515), 99759dd72+ AC: 104.0.8, 3dc0ff00e7 GV: 104.0-20220816115024 AS: 93.7.2 The phone runs Android version 11 RKQ1.200826.002 The tablet runs Android version 9 TB-X705F_S210164_201119_ROW

Hi

What happens when you try to add shortcuts to yell.com or groceries.asda.com? Is there any error message?

On these websites, when I tap the three vertical dots on the right of the menu bar, there is no 'Add to homescreen' option for me to click. On some websites (like this one) the option is there. On others, it isn't. And that still leaves the issue of websites that I have pinned in the past just disappearing. Thanks for trying to help me.

Is there an "Install" option instead for those websites?

more options

Yes, there is an 'Install option. I hadn't tried it, as I didn't want to install the shop's app. That worked and pinned the site to my homescreen.

Please note: I have also just gone to traveline.info and uk.yahoo.com. These were the sites that were unpinned. Both of them now have the 'add to homescreen' option, so I have, after many weeks, been able to re-pin them on my phone. Things have changed so often that I don't want to say yet that the issue is resolved, but it's possible that Mozilla have fixed the problem (3 Sept '22). Thanks for your suggestion, Paul.
