Hi, I want to set up a gmail account in thunderbird but only to send email. I do not want to receive email from that account. Is that possible? I used to be able to do this by just writing wrong the incoming server settings. But now if I do that it won't be able to get connected. In windows I know this is possible in Outlook because there is an option to not synchronize email, only check for new email if I do it manually, but I am using Mac and would really prefer to keep using thunderbird. Thank you very much for any help you can give me!

You might consider changing settings in Gmail, such as set a filter to immediately delete all incoming mail and also set the option to not make inbox available to an email client.

Thanks for your reply. I cant delete all email because eventually I need to read it. Can't seem to find the option in gmail not make inbox available to an email client. Any help? Or I guess I have to ask them... Although it's a great idea, I'll try to figure that one out. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Go to the outgoing server (SMTP) and add your GMail outgoing server. You will need to have some sort of incoming account, but as you say you can create a dodgy config for that. Just click the configure manually button in the new account wizard to get out of the verification loop.
