Firefox taking 23% of the CPU when not running

more options

I shutdown my firefox browser and was running top on my linux POP_OS 22.04 laptop.

I noticed a firefox process running at 23 to 25 % of the cpu even though the browser was closed. Can you tell me what is running and how I control it?

Chosen solution

Firefox may take up to 60 seconds to shut down. After that, the process should be terminated. If you see Firefox running after that, I would be suspicious that it is running as the child of another process (potentially malware).

One would think at 68 I would have learned some patience along the way, but apparently it is a lesson I still need to learn.

Thanks for the quick reply.
