DO NOT LET THE NEW ESR UPDATE BE ALLOWED ON YOUR DESKTOP..............CAUSES SITES TO CRASH. AND FOR MY NEEDS FORCED GOING TO A PRIVATE WINDOW TO DO ANY BUSINESS ON WEBSITES.............THIS UPDATE IS BEING FORCE FED TO THE GENERAL USER AND NOT KEPT IN THE ENTERPRISE ENVIRONMENT WHERE IT BELONGS...................I HAD TO RELOAD AND RE-SYNC TO VERSION 114 AFTER INSTALLING VER 115.1. USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION IF IT IS LOADED..............THIS UPDATE IS NOT! TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY......ITS HAS BUGS AND NOT FULLY TESTED. VLD

Hi

Would you be using ZoneAlarm on your computer?

Do you have Adblocker Ultimate installed in Firefox?

Yes normally the ESR channel is not served to regular Firefox users.

However you are using one of the EOL OS's where support has been dropped as of Firefox 116 and later. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-macos-1012-1013-1014-moving-to-extended-support

This was so the old EOL Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 OS users can still get Firefox updates for security/stability until Sept 2024. Meanwhile Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Opera has already dropped support of Windows 7, 8, 8.1 back in January/February this year.

Mozilla did a similar thing for the then EOL WinXP/Vista users by supporting them with Firefox 52 ESR (52.9.0esr) and did so for over two years after Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Opera dropped support.

caps key gets stuck at times on this new keyboard.....so just keep typing.......................

No not using.........That ESR , I didn't ask for it, it was shoved to me on a routine update.........also messed up displaying pages stopped handshaking with websites, prevented download of pages. Once I got rid of it everything returned to normal.............I just use a basic ad blocker, nothing fancy and Avast does the grunt of the work for security as I don't trust Microsoft to do anything. Just running plain vanilla Windows with all updates installed. Avoid Google because of their data mining on everything and prying into every aspects of ones life. and even they screw up my system also once. The OS I keep basic. Sometimes even tho I have a 64bit quad cord, the system get finicky and need to use a 32 bit version of some software. the Firefox is 64 bit loaded............I once had these similar issues with a version around 93-98 and reverting fixed it also As far as EOL......they're slow on the Linux also that I run on 4 systems also for updates...........And as far as EOL...just a way to force one to buy a new system when the current one works just fine...............been testing the Win 11 for MS and still loaded with bugs and security breaches out of the wazoo...........I don't write code.....but go about trying to break the software to make is better and supply reports on flaws.........so if necessary...will stay with this current 114 since it works just fine since most updates are just bug fixes anyway that don't affect me.

It seems like you're advising someone to be cautious about updating Firefox from an Extended Support Release (ESR) version to the regular desktop version. Extended Support Release versions of Firefox are designed for organizations and users who prioritize stability and long-term support over having the latest features and updates.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding whether to update from Firefox ESR to the regular desktop version:

Feature Updates: The regular desktop version of Firefox receives more frequent feature updates, including new functionalities, interface changes, and security enhancements. If you value having the latest features and improvements, the regular version might be more suitable for you.

Stability and Compatibility: ESR versions are specifically designed to provide a stable and consistent browsing experience, making them suitable for organizations and users who prefer fewer changes over time. The regular desktop version might have more frequent updates that could potentially introduce compatibility issues or changes in behavior.

Security: Both ESR and regular versions of Firefox receive security updates, but ESR versions prioritize stability over rapid changes. If security is a top concern and you're willing to sacrifice some newer features for a more stable experience, ESR might be the better choice.

Response you got from a AI chat bot

If you read the replies before posting including https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-users-windows-7-8-and-81-moving-extended-support you would see there is a reason why the OP using Windows 7 is being served the Firefox 115 ESR version and not the Firefox 116 Release.
