I've set the settings for my Spam folder to automatically delete spam mail that's older than one day. But for some reason this doesn't work, and the spam keeps piling up in my spam folder, so I have to delete everything manually. I'm using the Dutch language version of Thunderbird, latest version, 115.3.1.

What am I doing wrong?

Is the Spam folder created by TB or by the mail provider? TB uses a Junk folder. Open the account in webmail and see if you can adjust the Spam retention policy.

It's created by my mail provider, but the strange thing is that I've been using Thunderbird for ages, and this function has always worked flawlessly. As a matter of fact, yesterday, when I wanted to check again if I had checked all the right boxes (which I had), Thunderbird suddenly started to remove all the spam messages that were older than 1 day, automatically!

So, don't ask me how, but it works again! Even though it's a folder created by my mail provider. My mail provider, btw, is MS Outlook, and it has a fixed retention policy of 10 days.

So, still a mystery.
