A new version of thunderbird installed on my pc today. Why do some incoming emails not show in INBOX? They show up under ALL MAIL, but only some show under INBOX.

This sounds like a gmail account. Gmail puts all mail in the allmail folder, but that includes spam and what Gmail may decide are other categories. I suggest you review the online gmail account to see what is not in inbox and possibly create filters to help Gmail manage that. I do not use allmail folder, as it is a duplicate of whatever else you may have and requires TB to manage those duplicates.
