Chosen solution

click the addressbook in thunderbird. then highlight the addressbook itself. to its right are three dots. that is a dropdown menu and from there you can export in a variety of formats, such as csv, ldif.

Okay. Thanks. When exporting to a flash drive I had to click on the file type to get them to an Idif file which worked.
