Browser Defender is installed as an extension. Please see this knowledge base article on how to uninstall it.
It is not listed under add ons or extensions
Yes it is. go to Tools then add-ons. Look under extensions and disable it.
I'd love to know how to actually GET RID OF this Browser Defender.
It seems that 'uninstall' is not actually an option, which strikes me as absurd.
I don't know where this came from, and it's causing problems!
This thing is slowing my entire machine down!! WTF!
I have the same issues. I don't recall installing this it just popped up on my IE and Firefox yesterday :~((((((((((((((((((
Did you look in the Windows Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs? Remove it from there.
I have tried to remove PC Tools that has become part of the Firefox browser, I've tried to disable it, I've even tried to cast the devil out of it and I have had no luck. It makes my browser jerky and slow. Firefox popped up the other day saying I needed to upgrade, so I did, and there was PC Tools on the left side of my bookmarks. Anyone have suggestions in what to do? If I can't get rid of it, I'm dumping Mozilla and going to Google Chrome.
I had exactly the same problem. The solution was: go to Control Panel, select Programs and Features, highlight Browser Defender, select Uninstall.
It worked and so far my browser is back to normal speed!!!

"Disable" worked for me! THANKS SO MUCH ---- the "sluggish" response was making me crazy!!!!
I have uninstalled and removed the plugin. Everything. The program is still there.
PCTools people are a joke. They sell malware/spyware removal but they are the ones creating the problem. I never installed this toolbar of any of their software ! Disabling this in the addons does nothing. It comes back at reboot of the PC. And why is the "uninstall" button grayed out?
The forum of PCTools has a similar thread. I tried to register to post on that thread to tell them that this toolbar got installed in my PC in a sneaky way, just like any other malware but they won't approve my registration. Unreal. It is true that companies that sell malware cleaner are the ones who probably distribute propagate viruses.
PCTools is indeed a joke. I purchased the program and without any warning got the firewall software and some other garbage as well. All it ever did for my computer (I have a very fast cpu w/8gb ram) was slow it down to a snails pace. I found someone that pretended (probably was) to be a pctools tech and told him my problem. He/she told me to email pctools (gave me the email address) and explain the problem and they would be back to me within hours. Well, today it's been almost a week and I have heard a peep. I solved the problem though. I completely removed all their software and my computer immediately went back to it's original speed. Btw, during all of this I tried to download google/chrome and it would always block the download. After removing the program from pctools, it downloaded without a hitch. I would advise anyone to avoid their sales pitch and stick to real Companies in that business.
In the Firefox browser : Go to Help ... then select Restart with Add-ons Disabled... Now a pop up will come and ask for your confirmation. Give confirmation to start the browser with Add-ons disabled. Again a box will come and ask you some selections. There select default search engine with some other regular options. That's all now that browser defender Gone! permanently. ... And on top right side of the browser, you can see the search box with an eye glass. Look for a down button in the left side of the search box and click it. A search engines list will come ... there locate Browser defender and remove it Now you are completely away from the Browser Defender . Happy surfing
