Just upgraded to newest version of Firefox, but can't connect......message says that the proxy server has refussed connection. Turned off any antivirus programs and disabled my firewall, still no luck. Any suggestions?

Previously used an older version of Firefox without any problem. When I upgraded to the newest version, I think it was 3.6.8, I suddenly couldn't connect to the web. A message indicated that the proxy server was refusing connection. I turned off my antivirus (Microsoft Essentials)and Windows firewall, but no difference. I have a cable connection and the modem & router seem to work fine (I have other computers working normally).

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".
See "Firefox connection settings" in Server Not Found - Troubleshoot connection problems

You can find the connection setting here: Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select No Proxy
