Saved Firefox 3.6.10 Bookmarks to HTML file., then atempted to import to IE8 using it's import bookmarks function - attempt fails. Also tried IE8 import Favorites from Firefox function and that also fails.

Does IE import any bookmarks at all?

Do you have bookmarks with usual Unicode characters in the name or URL ?

You can try to check the HTML with an editor to see if you can identify and correct that.
