I have Firefox 2.0.0.14 on GNU how do I upgrade to 3?
I bought an ASUS netbook 2 years ago. I like the Linux and love using Firefox. However, many sites are now rejecting the 2.x. I can see on download sites how to get the tar file for the 3.x but have no idea how to load it safely. I worked with unix many years ago, so I know some basics. I bought a GNU book and it is no help. I need simple safe instructions to do an upgrade to firefox.

Your Linux version on your netbook probably doesn't support Firefox versions later that 2.0.0.x.

You will have to update to a more recent Linux version.

The ASUS EeePC's came with a special version of Xandros (from 2007) that was made for ASUS Netbooks. It doesn't have the GTK package needed to run Firefox 3+ versions, you need to update the GTK package, at least. I was so unimpressed with the performance of Firefox 3 on that old OS that I didn't even bother to update beyond 3.0 to 3.5 or 3.6.

You really should consider installing the Netbook Remix of Ubuntu 10.10. It comes with Firefox 3.6, and IMO the EeePC runs faster overall with a newer OS than what they originally came with, at least on my EeePC 900
