I enter a userid and password when logging in to a new web site account. I get the "do you want Firefox to remember the password for..." with the three options. I click to save the password for a web site, but save prompt won't dismiss automatically and save the password. My past saved passwords are remembered. I password protect the saved passwords.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_Manager (Troubleshooting)

You can backup your current passwords and re-import them after you have (tried to) rename signons.sqlite and key3.db in the Firefox Profile Folder to see if that makes saving work again.

cor-el, your suggestion worked perfectly! I now have a new tool in my toolbox, and a new technique for dealing with FF.

Thank you very, much.
