How do import bookmarks from a file on a hard drive instead of from IE?

Saved bookmarks from old computers to a file on an external HD. Want to import them into new FF on new computer. When I click import it only gives me the option to import from IE.

It depends upon how you saved the bookmarks from the old computer.

Firefox can import from two different file types. For HTML, see the Import Bookmarks from an HTML file article. This will add the bookmarks from the HTML file to those that already exist. If it is a JSON file, see the restoring bookmarks section of the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. If you used a JSON file, it will replace the bookmarks in Firefox with those from the JSON file.

If you copied the places.sqlite file from your old computer, you can copy it to your current profile folder, replacing the file that is already there.
