I'm using Firefox 3.6.13 on Macintosh OS X 10.6.6. Visiting BBC Hindi results in a page full of empty boxes instead of text. The website displays properly in Safari and the script appears in the title bar. I have also set the encoding to UTF-8. Unicode-compatible fonts are installed.

Do you have that problem with other languages as well?

Try to disable website fonts and select another default font as a test.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can do a check for corrupted fonts and other font issues:

I have it with a few. Devangari, Tamil, Gujrati, Bengali, and Tibetan. Others work fine. I'm at a loss as to why it's these specific languages.

Did you try my above suggestion to choose another font for that page?

If the font works in the title bar but not on web pages then there can be a problem with the font on those web pages.
