How do I stop the historical dropdown from showing on input text fields from within the script?

I'm running a jquery datepicker function on an input text field and the default FF behavior when clicking on a input text field is to drop down a select list of previously entered values.

Since I only want the datepicker function to be seen and not the drop down list, how do I disable that feature from the script?

Maybe add the autocomplete="off" attribute to that input field to prevent Firefox from storing that data.
