I have Windows 7 & just started Firefox 3.6 this week. Firefox worked fine for two days, & now it does this: I click it open & the last website I was on appears. I close it & the second to last website I visited appears, and then 2 emails appear from my webmail account. Re-boot changed nothing. Did I select something to cause this?

Check that you haven't set those pages as multiple home pages.

This can also be a problem with the file sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
