When I click on the firefox icon on my desktop the indicated message appears in a pop-up. I click through it three times and the firefox screen comes up, but it is not normal. I also do not think that updates are being downloaded

Chrome Registration failures in Vista/Windows 7 can be a security measure to prevent programs from making changes to protected folders and registry keys.

The solution is to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator) to get elevated permissions.
