i.e. switching from headphones to speakers or even removing headphones and putting them back in. it doesn't seem to recognize that a device has been plugged in, thus no troubleshoot information. this did not happen on 3.6. using win7.

Did you close and restart Firefox after changing the sound device?

No. That is my point. In Firefox 3.6 I could change devices and there was never a problem. I didn't have to close the browser.
