In the last week firefox will not open a new blank tab and will not bring up the bookmarks organization options when I bookmark a page. I have not changed any of my settings and can not find any settings that would cause this difference. Any ideas?
What I mean by new blank tab is that if I click the button with the + next to already open tabs or go to file and click on New Tab nothing happens.
Chosen solution
Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

Thank you Tony that fixed the tab issue; however, it did not fix the bookmarks issue. I am still looking for an answer to that one.
Modified
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
Thanks for all the help. The bookmark issue didn't get fixed but then they launched firefox 4.0. Now everything is working fine again.
