bookmarks toolbar is empty and wont come back

The space for the tool bar is there but the sites that should fill it are gone, however they are on the menu above and you can access them through the pull down menu which is pain staking and not what i need, i need them on the menu like i am used to.

it is like there is an anchor missing to hold them in place, i have tired deleting it and rebuilding it but that is no use, i have unticked it and ticked it, i have unistalled googled toolbar incase that was causing it but no. as i say the space for the tool bar iis there but it remains empty. and i cannot put anything in it and new items do not go into it either.

In short. it seems you need to activate the bookmarks toolbar by adding a certain tool to it. That tool is called "Bookmark tool items".

1) First make sure the empty toolbar is visible by selecting the "view" menu and checking off "bookmarks Toolbar" from the "Toolbars" sub-menu.

2) right-click on a toolbar (other than the bookmarks toolbar) and select "customize" from the menu.

3) find the tool "Bookmark Toolbar Items" and drag it into the Bookmarks toolbar.

4) click on the "Done" button, and your bookmarks will display in the toolbar, while the item you dragged into it will disappear.
