How do I add an App Tab when my laptop doesn't have a control-click option?

In order to add an app tab, the info website says to control-click/right-click on the tab, which will open a menu, from where you can designate it as an app tab. However, on my Mac, there is no control-click/right-click that I can find - so I can't make app tabs. Is there another way around this? Is there another way to make app tabs? Am I missing something???
