I have not change any setting that I know of. I am using 3.6. I want to go to 4 but it does not support Norton Security Suite Passwords and log ins.

Click Tools | Add-ons | Plugins and disable SmileyCentral. This is an adware/spyware product and interferes with Firefox performance.

Then go to the Plugins Check page and update where necessary.

Also, check in Tools | Options | Privacy and make sure that "Clear history when Firefox closes" is not enabled.

N.B. Firefox already has a secure password utility. Simply enable a "Master Password" via Tools | Options | Security and the contents will be encrypted.

After that, when you visit a site, all you need to do is to enter the "Master Password" and the utility will add your username and password in the respective fields.

You can look at these prefs on the about:config page to make sure that you keep history.

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
