How do I use the Firefox 3.x frontend on the Firefox 5.x backend?
I want to know what bits of code to change around in the Firefox 5.x install to make it revert to the Firefox 3.x frontend rather than use the awful 5.x standard frontend. Changing the theme does not restore full functionality of the 3.x standard theme, so a different solution has to be found. If nobody answers this, I'm going to fork the 3.x version myself. Because I am fed up with the theme included with 4.x and 5.x and many other Firefox users are as well.

First enable the classic menu by pressing alt or f10. When the classic menu appears choose view > toolbars > menu bar
View > toolbars > uncheck tabs on top
view > toolbars > customize > drag items such as the stop, reload and home buttons to the 3.6 locations on the left of the address bar
install https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/235283/
That should get you reasonably close to the Firefox 3.6 look. If there are any other specific problem areas reply with what they are.
I apologize for getting back later than I wanted to. My testbed has given up the spirit, so I'm forced to restructure my computers to dedicate another to become the testbed. Until then, I won't be able to test out the aforementioned tips and will continue using Firefox 3.6.18 for now since it's stable and has the look I need it to have.
