A few weeks ago I upgraded my computer from Firefox 3.X to version 4. When version 5.0 was released I immediately upgraded. However, since installing Firefox 5 I lost all of my bookmarks. It will not save new bookmarks and does not remember my history - I made sure that 'private browsing' is not selected. How do I get everything back?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

After installing Firefox 5 and losing my bookmarks I googled the problem and installed google toolbar and all my bookmarks are back.
