The Helvetica Font Issue...

more options

UPDATE: I solved this problem by installing a new version of Helvetica. This wrote over the old version, but appeared in the font folder. I deleted it, and Helvetica now renders perfectly.

I have the usual issue of an old-bitmap version of Helvetica that creates strange characters on a website. However, this is where my problem differs. I've deleted the problematic version of Helvetica off my font folder, but it still exists on my computer.

If I go to Microsoft Word, for example, the typeface still exists (it's a Truetype font). I can't find it anywhere though.

Even by zooming out, the font still appears very strange (not at all like Helvetica is -- I have a good copy of it as Helvetica Lt Std, but that's an Opentype font).

I don't know how to fix this problem! At this point, I've tried other browsers and it's an issue on all browsers (although I first saw it on Firefox, my main browser).

I've had this problem for over a year now.

Body text issues: http://i.imgur.com/ZUq9A.png

It does not appear in my font folder (note: I've expanded "Helvetica Lt Std", and it is not hidden in there): http://i.imgur.com/wFDvR.png

But the font "Helvetica" does appear on Word: http://i.imgur.com/D6rfY.png

As you can see from "Helvetica on Word," the typeface Helvetica Lt Std is not a problem. As it is one of my favourite fonts, I do not want to remove it, either.

Regarding Word, I think the entry under "Recently Used" could be left over from before you deleted it. If you scroll down the menu, is it in the expected place among all fonts?

Can you double-check the Advanced font dialog to make sure Helvetica isn't used in there?

Tools menu > Options > Content > under Fonts & Colors "Advanced"

It may not help, but for security reasons, you should upgrade to Firefox 3.6.18 or Firefox 5. Use Help > Check for Updates to get Firefox 3.6.18.

It is in the expected place among all fonts, unfortunately. And in the advanced font dialog, my default font is Arial.

And yeah, I'm in the process of upgrading Firefox right now.

Thanks for responding!
