I need to know how to enlarge icons and tabs and to make scrollbars larger and/or more easily visible. Firefox's pale grey on white scrollbar is almost invisible to my ageing eyes.

Try one of the large themes.

You may have to change the scroll bar appearance in the Mac system settings as there is where it is usually done on other Operating Systems if the theme doesn't do that.
