Why have two different versions 6.0.1 & 8.0a.2 both stopped working from Friday.

On Friday night Firefox 6 on opening started an update, this failed and unable to recover. Complete removal, registry cleanup and re-install resulted in an error message relating to version 6 not 6.0.1 error min version=< 6.0.1 max version=>6.0.1

As of today evry time I open Firefox 6.01 it crashes. It sometimes crashes in seconds, minutes or within 15v minutes. It has crashed at least 15 times today. Is there a solution?? Thanks
