Why is my firefox not showing any rollover behavior with links and/or menus?

As of the new update, Firefox is not showing effects of rollover for anything that would normally have that behavior. For example, there are no flags in the lower left showing where the link will take me. I also don't get any hover menus unless I right click first.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

No luck there. I started it in safe mode and disabled everything I could.

Do you see a tooltip if you hover an icon on the location bar and do you see the link appear as a tooltip at the bottom of the browser window if you hover a link on a web page?

I assume that the links that you talked about would open a pop-up via CSS or JavaScript.

You can check if the pref browser.chrome.toolbar_tips is set to false on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

no tooltips anywhere, and the toolbar_tips pref is set to true.

Are you using the default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance) ?

You can try:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I am on the default theme. I also tried stepping through all the solutions in the basic troubleshooting steps and none have worked. I still have no response when hovering links or buttons; no tooltips or flags in the lower left corner, unless I right click the link first. Thank you for your help so far.
