Occurred 3 times (one proceeded a serious crash on my computer (code purple) when I responded by shutting down the computer). The program is not running because the task manager does not show it up. This happens when trying to open it. Running Window 7

Firefox needs a few seconds to shut down and to unlock the Profile. If you close Firefox and immediately try to restart Firefox, you may have not allowed enough time for the process to complete. If that is not the case, see the following.

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.

  1. Stop the Firefox process:
  2. Why Firefox may hang:
  3. Use Firefox Safe Mode to find a problem with an Extension or Plugin:

Thank you for the reply. Steps I took: I ran the trouble shooter after I reinstalled Firefox and found the statement, "Incompatible Application Detected." Is Firefox incompatible with Windows 7? The message did not state which application was incompatible so I am stuck in my trouble shooting efforts. Is theer a way to see which application is causing the issue? Babbs

"I ran the trouble shooter"

You ran what trouble shooter?

Did you try any of the suggestions in the articles that I posted? Sixteen minutes between my posting and your reply --- WOW! you must be a fast reader.

Firefox 6.0.2 is compatible with Windows 7. See --> https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/6.0/system-requirements/index.html

I ran the trouble shooter you can access when you right click on the shortcut on the desk top. It checked for compatibility and came up with the afore mentioned report. In response to you question. Yes I did read many of the links you gave me. Some did not apply . I only looked at the ones in detail that applied to my situation and I learned some new things. It occured to me to first retry the trouble shooter one the recently reinstalled Firefox. There were good suggestions to try for the next time this occcurs but I was hoping my actions would prevent another occurance of "hanging". My new word of the day.
