I use to administrate my DSL modem via an ip-address. When I enter it into FF8 I am asked where to save the file. Why and how can I prevent FF8 from doing that?

And now anytime I am entering an ip-address I am asked if I want to download the file.

Chosen solution

It happens when the modem server doesn't send the file as text/html, but with another MIME type.
I tried the index.html addition in case the server might send that file as text/html.
If your DSL modem has a support website then you can try to ask there for advice about how to configure the modem server.

With which content type is that file send?

I just enter the pure IP-address in the address line. The then upcoming error message says:

You want to download the following file: Type: application/octet-stream (-1 Bytes) From: http://192.168.5.100

Firefox will always offer to save files that are send as application/octet-stream and won't open them as an HTML file.

Try to add index.html to the URL to see if that works:

But why does firefox interpret a ip-address as a file? I already tried with index.html, but did not help.
