Why is Gmail slow in Firefox compared to Chrome?

I've noticed significant differences in Gmail is Firefox compared with Google Chrome / Safari etc.

  • Scrolling between messages using the j/k keyboard shortcuts is extremely slow in Firefox
  • The window scrollbar does not look the same either.

Does anyone know the reason for this? Why is Gmail so slow in Firefox?

Using Gmail on a daily basis. I can't confirm that FF scrolls slowly in Gmail.

Do you have any add-ons that "enhance" Gmail that might interfere?

I tested this on a clean profile with no extensions. When I say scroll, I really mean going down the message list (e.g. inbox) using the j/k keyboard shortcuts (the mouse scrolling using scrollbar is fine).

If you try the same on Google Chrome or Safari, navigating the message list is significantly faster. I have seen this on Mac (10.6) only though.
