For no apparent reason Firefox changed all add on settings and displayed all add on and toolbar home pages in separate tabs (about 15). Removed my personas including favourites and installed one of its own. All bookmarks remained normal. Firefox seemed to have a life of its own. Am still working to fix after 2 hours.

Thanks cor-el too much yada yada in those references but not really a help. I have fixed most of the problem bit by bit mostly by re-installing my add-ons one at a time and also clearing down the numerous tabs (which are thanking me for installing various updates which I didn't do), then restarting the PC from time to time. There's still the odd glitch but generally OK now.

One thing I did note was that somehow several unwanted toolbars appeared which I had to remove. No idea where they came from but I would think part of the update thank-you's.
