I installed the update and your logo was X'd out. I could no longer get on line and I was truly dead. Fortunately I found an older version I installed over the new one and that is how I'm running now. How can I update to make sure I have portection?

Chosen solution

It looks like your Mac has a "PPC" chip (not one made by Intel). Unfortunately, Firefox 3.6 is the last version to support that. We'll still be supporting 3.6 for a short while (3.6.25 was just released yesterday) but you might want to try TenFourFox which is another browser based on Firefox (but made by others) for PPC Macs.

You can find the latest Firefox 3.6.x release here:

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
