i live in Germany at the moment and any web search defaults to German websites; often i cannot even access the .com or co.uk websites. any ideas how to change that?

Defaulting to German website is not Firefox specific, but as I use Firefox as my primary browser I wondered if I could disable that.

You can get additional Google search engines here including a 'No country redirect' version on the Mycroft Project website.


Some sites automatically redirect you to a site in the local language, based on where your IP locates you.
You can check the installed Languages: Tools > Options > Content > Languages
There is usually a link on such websites choose a language or go to an international version that allows to chose the language.


Local Google sites have a link at the bottom of the page to go to the "Google.com in English" site.
You may need to hover that local Google page with the mouse to make extra content appear.
You can set Google preferences on the Google Search settings page (click the gear icon at the top right).
Such settings are stored in a cookie on your computer that you need to allow.

  • Tools > Page Info > Permissions
