Removing Yahoo toolbar from firefox 10.0.2

more options

Yahoo toolbar infected my browser and I just want to get rid of it. It doesn't have an uninstall option under toolbar settings, it doesn't appear under my ad/remove program lists on the computer, it doesn't appear listed under my extensions or plugins for the browser, and all the previous help questions I looked at could not solve this. I'm running a new laptop that's 2 days old running Windows 7. All I want is a clean browser.

Hi STrahlTiger,

You should try going to Tools > Add-ons and deleting it. If your home page has been changed, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article How to set the home page.

There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.

If your search has been changed to Yahoo as well, you should look at the Knowledge Base article Search bar - add, change and manage search engines on Firefox.

If the address bar search has been changed as well, you might want to take a look at Location bar search.

If that doesn't work you should look at the article How to fix preferences that won't save.

Hopefully this helps!

Some versions of the Yahoo! Toolbar have a “Settings” button with an uninstall menu option. To see which version of the toolbar is installed, visit this Yahoo Help page. If you have a "Pencil" button, click "Uninstall" in the menu, enter any feedback, then click "Uninstall" and restart Firefox. Ref:

As I stated in my OP, the toolbar does not appear in my add-ons/extensions/plugins so there's no simple way for me to remove it. Also stated in my OP, the toolbar settings option does not have an uninstall option.

In that case, see Cannot remove an add-on (extension or theme) for other ways to remove Firefox extensions. To reset your home page, search and other modified settings that the Yahoo Toolbar installation might have changed, see Fix problems with your home page or search

I have a way of dealing with it. I noticed your last statement saying that you just want a clean browser. I use Firefox 10.0.2 - so what I did was to right-click the area in between the top-three buttons (minimize, expand, close) and the search engine. This brought out a menu... and I was able to untick the Yahoo! Toolbar from it. Thats a way to claim back your clean browser :D

I too have this problem. I believe this toolbar is called Yahoo 2 for Firefox. I can't get rid of it and I want to. I don't want to just hide the Yahoo toolbar.

I have tried every way of uninstalling it I can. It does not show as a plugin or extension so can't be removed via that method. I have tried removing it by deleting the Yahoo folder from my Firefox profile in windows safe mode and still it seems to keep reappearing.

Any ideas for some "under the hood" method to get rid of it. I wonder if it is anything to do with Yahoo messenger - do I need to delete something from there as well?

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

@ dimsum:

It would be better if you could ask a new question since this thread is for StrahlTiger. You can use this link as a starting point: https://support.mozilla.com/questions/new When you ask your question, it would help if you included the contents of the Help - Troubleshooting Information page (see the link for details) since it will list your installed extensions and (most) modified preferences.

This was very helpful, but here's the strange thing. The extensions listing is blank...but Yahoo toolbar is still active and installed. I'm very confused.

Thank you so much, lovelogo, I had been trying to remove that thing for months... and because of you... it was removed in a second.
