Is there any way to disable the 'Check Now' button in tools>options>general>Always check to see if firefox is the default browser on startup?
I'm customizing a firefox distribution and want to remove any option to change the default browser to reduce future helpdesk calls as much as possible.
I've been able to disable and gray out the "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser" option, but the check now button can still be manually clicked. Any idea if there's any file that can be modified to hide this button or gray it out?

Use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify default values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.
pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg"); pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); // use this to disable the byte-shift
See:
You can use these functions in mozilla.cfg:
defaultPref(); // set new default value pref(); // set pref, but allow changes in current session lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes
- lockPref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false);
The lockPref mentioned *only* unchecks and disables the checkbox. The *Check Now* button remains available, and still allows for the browser to be set as default through the popup dialog.
