Desktop Bookmarks converted to Start Page ??
Hello:
We discovered (early this morning) that all of our Firefox Bookmarks that we draged from the URL Address Box to the Desktop have somehow been converted from the saved bookmark to our Firefox Start Page, the names an the desktop bookmark icons appear normal. However, all of Bookmarks that are stored in the Firefox Bookmarks drop down menue are normal. As we have not looked at any of the desktop bookmarks in
the last 4-months, they were deffinatley placed on the desktop with an earlier version of Firefox (our current version is 11.0).
We are not trying to recover the desktop bookmarks, but, we would like to know what may have happened to cause this for future refferance.
We are using Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with a MacMini
Thanks.

Desktop shortcuts open by default in the browser that is set as the default browser in the Operating System.
So there may be a problem with the default browser if only the Firefox start page opens when you open such a desktop shortcut.
Did you inspect the properties of such a not working shortcut?

How, can I repair the problem with FF, as the default browser?
You can check the Properties of the internet shortcut by right-clicking the internet shortcut icon on the desktop to see if it still has the correct URL.
I assume that you can do that on Mac in the same way as on other operating systems.
Is Firefox still the default browser?
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General : System Defaults
I have checked the shortcuts by dragging them to Text Edit which shows the correct URL's for each of the shortcuts. Even though, the shortcut URL's are correct they still open to the FF Start Page (this is with FF closed).
Yes, FF is and has been our default browser.
